YouTuber amity_sensei Teaches Children Digital Art Using ATEM Switchers
Fremont, CA, USA – Thursday, October 12, 2023 – Blackmagic Design today announced that amity_sensei, a YouTuber known for promoting the creative use of iPads, is using ATEM Mini Pro and ATEM Mini Extreme ISO live production switchers to live stream iPadmate kids, a creative school for children that she founded.
Hailing from Kyoto, amity_sensei began engaging in art and design activities using iPads after studying art in the UK. Later, she established the YouTube channel amity_sensei in Japan with a mission to showcase the fascinating aspects of iPads and digital art to the world. Her endeavors aim to demonstrate that even those without artistic skills can create art using iPads.
Presently, her channel boasts more than 340,000 subscribers, and she has participated in Apple events and now runs a creative school in Kyoto called iPadmate kids, which nurtures future creators.
“The trigger for starting to use ATEM Mini was live streaming. It happened around the time when the COVID-19 pandemic led to the beginning of live streaming on platforms like Zoom and YouTube Live. The reason I chose the ATEM switchers was that many other YouTubers were using them, so I decided to give them a try,” amity_sensei shared.
Currently, amity_sensei conducts activities at the school aimed at teaching children the joy of drawing on iPads. Classes are held on the first floor of a traditional Kyoto townhouse that serves as a classroom for face to face sessions, while the second floor hosts a waiting area for parents and another classroom for online courses.
On the first floor, a camera captures the workspace, and the outputs from both the camera and iPad are then sent to an ATEM Mini Pro for switching, with the feed then displayed on a large monitor in the classroom. “Showing the workspace helps children understand which buttons are being pressed on the iPad. When we want to display the artwork more clearly, we switch to the iPad output. To allow parents on the second floor to view the same video, we stream to YouTube and project it onto a large monitor upstairs,” amity_sensei explained.
Additionally, the second floor classroom is equipped with ATEM Mini Pro, a camera for capturing the workspace and another camera to capture amity_sensei during online classes. This setup allows live streaming during online sessions.
Regarding ATEM switchers, amity_sensei shared: “I found them easy to understand. I didn’t know all the specific functions of each button, but I could somehow figure out which buttons to press without reading the manual. Also, the appearance is stylish, and the design is appealing. When shooting room tour videos, having visually appealing equipment is crucial, so I appreciate the compact and sleek design.”
She continued: “At home, I have a setup for creating YouTube content. It includes three cameras and an ATEM Mini Pro ISO. I opted for the ISO model because it allows the recording of all camera footage. I can record overhead shots, the workspace, my face, and the iPad output. DaVinci Resolve also has an iPad version, and I look forward to trying it in the future.”
“Through this activity, I want to show children that iPads can be used for more than just playing games and watching videos and to change their perception before it becomes solely a device for entertainment. Some people argue against giving digital devices to children, but I believe it’s because adults don’t fully understand the potential uses. Many adults also use such devices primarily for video watching, and I want to change that mindset. In the future, I hope to expand this project to Tokyo and even internationally,” amity_sensei concluded.
