LONDON, UK / ACCESS Newswire / August 21, 2026 / US nationals accounted for nearly a third of all citizenship applications processed globally in the first quarter of 2026. According to the newly released USA Spotlight Report 2026 by CS Global Partners, wealthy Americans drove record demand for the established CBI programmes as they are increasingly seeking diversification.
The USA Spotlight Report 2026 is the flagship publication of the comprehensive World Citizenship Report, which features the World Citizenship Index (WCI). The report found that confidence among wealthy Americans in their government’s ability to provide the same level of security, long-term protection for families, and opportunities over the next decade has weakened significantly.
Notably, only about a third of mass affluent individuals in the US are confident their existing citizenship would deliver the same security and opportunity over the next decade. According to HNWIs, the government is failing them as it has failed to provide a competitive economy and assurance of future security.
It is also reflected in the growing number of Americans exploring alternative citizenship options, as enquiries from the country have accelerated steadily through 2025 and into 2026.
In addition, mass affluent individuals from the US are increasingly seeking to overcome the limitations of relying on a single jurisdiction.
America’s shifting power
The USA Spotlight Report revealed that the country recorded the steepest decline in its power due to an uncertain political environment and other irregularities. However, despite the country remaining in the headlines because of the FIFA World Cup, shifting policies, and citizenship decisions, HNWIs continued to enquire about citizenship opportunities in other countries.
Notably, China has dethroned the United States as the top destination for economic opportunity, securing the top position in the US Spotlight Report 2026 ranking, while the US slipped to second place.
The report suggests that this shift should not be interpreted as an indication that wealthy Americans are abandoning the United States. Instead, it reflects a growing preference for optionality as families reassess the risks of relying entirely on one jurisdiction.
The report noted, “American Families are increasingly approaching second citizenship as a considered, long-term planning decision rather than as a reaction to a single political event.”
This trend is further supported by the report’s findings that 71.6% of mass affluent respondents are more likely to consider an additional citizenship in response to global events, while only 2.7% are less inclined.
For American families, the motivation extends beyond immediate mobility. Business and professional opportunities, investment diversification and long-term family security are increasingly shaping decisions around additional citizenship.
The report also identified family security and generational protection as the leading strategic benefit of holding a second citizenship, underlining the long-term nature of the decision.
