U.S. Olympic Medalist Elana Meyers Taylor to Address Graduates at DeVry University Commencements
NAPERVILLE, Ill.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Elana Meyers Taylor, U.S. Olympic medalist and DeVry University’s Keller Graduate School of Management alum, will deliver the keynote address at the university’s commencement ceremonies on Saturday, July 17 and 31. More than 2,800 graduates nationwide will be conferred in virtual celebrations where Meyers Taylor will speak on the importance of resilience.
Meyers Taylor, who declared at the age of nine she’d become an Olympian, is a three-time Olympic medalist and four-time World Champion in bobsled. Meyers Taylor earned a bronze medal at the Olympic Winter Games Vancouver 2010, a silver medal at the Olympic Winter Games Sochi 2014, and another silver medal at the Olympic Winter Games PyeongChang 2018. She is the only female U.S. bobsled athlete who has won three Olympic medals. The Douglasville, Georgia native is currently training for the upcoming Olympic Winter Games.
Education is just as important to Meyers Taylor, who holds three higher education degrees. In addition to earning her MBA at Keller in 2015, she holds a master’s in sports medicine and a bachelor’s in exercise science from The George Washington University. She has focused her career aspirations on becoming the chief executive officer at the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee one day.
“We are honored to have Elana join us in celebrating our graduates, who have worked so tirelessly to get here, especially during a pandemic,” said Tom Monahan, president and CEO at DeVry University, “Elana’s extraordinary achievements exemplify her commitment and perseverance to achieving what she sets out to do. At DeVry University our mission centers on preparing students to thrive in a world shaped by constant technological change – Elana’s success exemplifies the values that we hold in high esteem and we believe her story can motivate our graduates to keep planning and reaching for the best.”
Like last year, DeVry shifted its in-person ceremonies to virtual celebrations for the Class of 2021 due to COVID-19. The virtual commencements will allow graduating students, their family and friends from across the country to experience this important moment together no matter where they are.
DeVry University is an official education provider of Team USA. Since the partnership began in 2011, more than 650 U.S. Olympic and Paralympic athletes and hopefuls have enrolled in a DeVry University certificate, associate, bachelor’s or master’s degree program, including 215 graduates.
