Strategy Analytics: Qualcomm Captures 70 Percent Share in 5G Basebands in Q1 2021

5G Baseband Shipments Grew Three-Fold

BOSTON–(BUSINESS WIRE)–The global cellular baseband market posted a solid double-digit shipment and revenue growth on the strength of 5G in Q1 2021, according to Strategy Analytics.

According to Strategy Analytics’ research, the baseband market grew 27 percent year-on-year to $7.4 billion in Q1 2021. The Strategy Analytics’ Handset Component Technologies (HCT) research report “Baseband Market Share Tracker Q1 2021: 5G Shipments Tripled” estimates Qualcomm, MediaTek, Samsung LSI, Intel and Unisoc captured the top-five cellular baseband revenue share spots in Q1 2021.

• Qualcomm led the baseband market with a 53 percent revenue share in Q1 2021, followed by MediaTek with 25 percent and Samsung LSI with 10 percent.
• Despite foundry capacity constraints, 5G basebands grew three-fold and drove the baseband shipment and revenue growth in Q1 2021.

For the first time in four years, HiSilicon dropped out of the top-five baseband revenue share rankings.
