PLANO, Texas–(BUSINESS WIRE)–NewPoint Real Estate Capital LLC (“NewPoint”) announced today the hiring of Bryan Dickson and Karen Kim each as Managing Director, Affordable Originations. These producers will focus on Agency and Proprietary Affordable Housing lending and join NewPoint’s Product and Underwriting teams exclusively focused on meeting the needs of the affordable housing community.

Dickson and Kim join NewPoint at a seminal time as it is making an aggressive push to build a leading affordable housing finance platform and looks to drive change in all areas of multifamily lending. NewPoint will provide more efficient and effective financing processes and solutions to the market through proprietary technology and innovation.

With a career spanning more than 20 years, Dickson has financed, underwritten, and asset-managed some of the largest and highest quality affordable and conventional housing developments in the U.S. He brings a great breadth of experience to NewPoint. Most recently, Dickson was Regional Director for Citi Community Capital, responsible for Affordable Housing Debt Origination and Investment Banking in the Mid-Atlantic and throughout the U.S. Before that, he was a producer at Freddie Mac in the Targeted Affordable Housing Sales and Investments group. Earlier in his career, he worked at the Illinois Housing Development Authority and Berkshire Mortgage Finance.

Kim joins NewPoint with a unique perspective on the Affordable Housing sector. For the past ten years, she has worked with clients in various capacities, providing custom financing solutions through FHA, Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, bridge, and other balance sheet loan programs for affordable and conventional housing developments. Most recently, Kim was a Relationship Manager with Greystone & Co., where she managed a portfolio of clients, including several top affordable housing developers. Before, Kim worked in the nonprofit sector as Manager of Corporate and Foundation Relations for God’s Love We Deliver and Development Associate for Upwardly Global.

“We are intensely focused on NewPoint becoming a leading multifamily lender. In today’s market, that means becoming a leader in affordable housing finance,” said NewPoint CEO David Brickman. “Having Brian and Karen join our team immediately accelerates our mission. They both bring to NewPoint a wealth of experience, knowledge, and have a deep commitment to affordable housing and exemplify the type of outstanding sector-specific professionals that we are bringing together.”

“I have been committed throughout my career to the mission of providing high-quality, affordable rental housing to those in need,” said Dickson. “I’m inspired to join David and NewPoint and contribute to bringing change to the industry through NewPoint’s innovative products and lending solutions.”

“I am excited about NewPoint’s vision and the platform the company is building. I have been so impressed with the leadership and the culture and look forward to working with our team to expand the influence of NewPoint in the Affordable Housing sector,” said Kim.

The addition of affordable housing focused originators is an expansion to the Affordable Housing team already in place at NewPoint and led by industry veterans:

  • Joshua Schonfeld serves as NewPoint’s Head of Affordable Housing Program and Transaction Management. He has more than 30 years of experience as an in-house and private-practice attorney. Schonfeld spent 21 years at Freddie Mac, where he specialized in multifamily affordable housing programs, including the Agency’s Targeted Affordable Housing debt and equity programs, and led legal development work on numerous new executions.
  • Karu Arulanandam is Head of Affordable Underwriting at NewPoint. With over 30 years of commercial real estate experience, he brings significant leadership experience to the underwriting team. He most recently served as the Chief Underwriter of the CBRE Affordable Housing Underwriting Team, which he formed. Before, he was a deputy chief underwriter at Prudential Mortgage Capital Company.
