National Guard Association of Illinois Helps Families Earn a Degree

Advance 500 Scholarship offers 500 no tuition cost scholarships to eligible National Guard family members*

SPRINGFIELD, Ill–(BUSINESS WIRE)–The National Guard Association of Illinois (NGAI) is proud to announce a unique program that helps families of the NGAI earn a degree. In partnership with DeVry University, the “Advance 500 Scholarship” allows eligible NGAI family members to pursue their education at DeVry with a 100 percent tuition savings*.

How DeVry’s Advance 500 Scholarship Works

  • The scholarship is available to dependents of NGAI members who are students at DeVry University.
  • NGAI members who enroll at DeVry from July 2019 – January 2020, may sponsor one designated dependent** to receive the scholarship.
  • NGAI members and their family member can pursue an undergraduate certificate, associate degree or bachelor’s degree at one of DeVry’s 45 locations or online.

“We pride ourselves on caring for the well-being of our members and their families, and we’re thrilled to announce DeVry’s Advance 500 Scholarship to our members,” said Calvin Young, executive director, National Guard Association of Illinois. “Our members spend a lifetime being dedicated to serving others, with Military spouses and children receiving little to no benefits for their devoted support. With the Advance 500 scholarship, we can help provide an opportunity for a military family member to earn a degree without financial obligation.”

NGAI partnered with DeVry University for the Advance 500 Scholarship because of the university’s long history of helping current and former members of the U.S. military reach their higher education goals. From training Army Air Corps instructors on electronic devices in the 1940s to being one of the first schools approved to accept the original GI Bill®1 after World War II, DeVry has been educating and supporting America’s military personnel and the veteran community for decades.

“I am proud to partner with the National Guard Association of Illinois and give back to our veteran community, as they have given so much of themselves for our country,” said James Bartholomew, president and CEO of DeVry University. “If we can help America’s veterans through supporting their families and offering 500 no tuition cost scholarships to qualified participants, we’re happy to do so.”
