CBORD Announces Mobile Credential Support for Student ID Cards in Apple Wallet
Students can now use their iPhone or Apple Watch everywhere they use their campus card
ITHACA, N.Y.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–#applewallet–CBORD, the leader in higher education and healthcare campus technology solutions, today announced mobile credential support for student ID cards in Apple Wallet, providing students with the simplicity, convenience and security of using their iPhone and Apple Watch to get around campus. Students, faculty and staff will be able to enter facilities and residence halls, use their meal plan, make purchases on and off campus, attend events, and more with just their iPhone and Apple Watch.
“CBORD has a long history of market-leading mobile technology, being the first to bring mobile credentials to campuses a decade ago with CBORD Mobile ID,” said Jim Hoefflin, president of CBORD. “And now we are pleased to elevate the student experience further with the speed and convenience of the next generation of native mobile wallet technology available on iPhone and Apple Watch.”
Leveraging CBORD’s APIs, CBORD is uniquely able to offer universities the ability to allow students to add their student IDs to Apple Wallet through the university app. Universities also have the flexibility to use the GET CBORD Student App. Campus card offices can remotely issue, revoke and reactivate mobile credentials instantly, providing greater security than physical IDs.
Six leading-edge universities have already entered into service agreements with CBORD to facilitate a full rollout of digital credentials natively supported in the Apple Wallet beginning this fall.
Clemson University, University of San Francisco, University of Tennessee, Knoxville, University of Vermont, Massachusetts Institute of Technology and University of Kentucky will implement this technology to provide a modern campus experience for their students, faculty and staff.
“As an institution that values innovation, it’s important to us that we are always adapting to the way students use technology to enhance the campus experience,” said Chris Cimino, senior vice chancellor for finance and administration at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. “Being able to access your VolCard on your mobile device is one of the many ways UT is continuously improving to meet expectations for a modern campus.”
“We are proud that the University of San Francisco will be one of the first to offer a complete mobile campus card experience,” said Jason Rossi, director of campus card and security systems for University of San Francisco, “particularly the improvement in service the mobile-based USF One Card is expected to provide.”
CBORD has long been a pioneer in campus card technology and integrated security solutions. With the addition of mobile credential support for student ID cards in Apple Wallet, it delivers the most proven, modern and flexible platform to leading-edge college, university and healthcare campuses.
