Brown Books Kids Publishes Children’s Picture Book About Helping Those in Need, Perfect for the Holiday Season

DALLAS–(BUSINESS WIRE)–#Helping–The Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) reported this year that over half a million people experience homelessness in the U.S. Mary Marianna, Great Owl, and the Chess Master was written by debut author William Morkill (illustrated by Susana Ramírez Solís) with the intention of addressing the topic of homelessness to children. Morkill encourages children to show kindness and begin considering ways they can help people in need.

The book begins with Mary Marianna discovering a homeless man on the street while walking home from school. She feels compelled to do something but doesn’t know where to start. Sensing her distress, a sage owl comes to Mary Marianna with advice about how she can help. With her parents at her side, Mary Marianna does her best to get the homeless man back on his feet. In doing so, she learns that the simple choice of taking action can make the biggest difference. In keeping with his book’s message, William Morkill will be donating proceeds from Mary Marianna, Great Owl, and the Chess Master to Habitat for Humanity to support people like Viktor (the homeless “chess master”).
