Audet Second-Generation, Axis-Based UI Patents Offered for Sale Through IPXCL; First-Generation Patents Sold to Apple in 2012

CHARLOTTE, N.C.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–IPXCL, LLC announces the offering of the “Audet Axis-Based User Interfaces” patent portfolio covering many aspects and features of axis-based user interfaces. Axis-based user interfaces are in widespread use and can be found in consumer products and services, including Windows and Mac operating systems; smartphones; selling platforms like Amazon; and media streaming services like Netflix, Amazon Prime, Disney+, and Apple TV+.

This is the second-generation portfolio by Mathieu Audet. With an earliest priority date of October 15, 2001, the first-generation portfolio included six U.S. patents, seven U.S. patent applications, and one Canadian patent. The first-generation portfolio was purchased in 2012 by Apple, Inc.

The second-generation portfolio has an earliest priority date of March 29, 2006, and includes 29 U.S. patents, 28 pending U.S. patent applications, 6 Canadian patents, and 11 pending Canadian patent applications. Building on and overlapping in subject matter with the first-generation portfolio, the second-generation portfolio covers many improvements and enhancements to axis-based user interfaces and associated functions for presenting and ordering elements along the axes. The second-generation portfolio is available for review at www.ipxcl.com.

According to Mr. Audet: “With the recent release of Catalina and iOS 13, the time has come to commercialize the second-generation portfolio. When I sold the first-generation patents to Apple, I pursued these others anticipating that one day these too would become highly relevant in the marketplace.

Mathieu Audet lives in Quebec and is a pioneer in axis-based user interfaces. Both a Canadian and U.S. patent agent, Mr. Audet began applying for patents in 2001 and established Maya-Systems Inc. in 2002 for developing software branded “iamorganized” utilizing these interfaces (www.iamorganized.com). In 2012, Maya-Systems sold the first-generation portfolio to Apple. Certain patent properties were excluded from the sale and were developed into the second-generation portfolio by 9224-5489 Quebec, Inc., another one of Mr. Audet’s companies.

IPXCL was established in 2018 by Chad Tillman—a U.S. patent attorney with over a quarter-century of U.S. patent-prosecution experience and a managing partner at the law firm of Tillman Wright, PLLC (www.tillmanwright.com). Through IPXCL, Mr. Tillman provides brokerage services while drawing from many past experiences at Tillman Wright, including legal representation of clients with respect to various patent acquisitions by Fortune 500 companies.
