Beacon Media Announces Launch of Hey Media
Hyper-Local Media Group Will Serve Southern California With Community Journalism and Interactive Content Services
LOS ANGELES–(BUSINESS WIRE)–#california–Beacon Media, a 25-year-old news group and community engagement organization serving Southern California, announced today the launch of Hey Media, a new media company that will build on and expand Beacon’s storied legacy of local reporting. Today, Hey Media launched its editorial arm, HeySocal.com.
In 1996, Beacon Media launched its first local paper. 25 years later, the company has grown exponentially, expanding its publishing network to serve 28 distinct communities with dedicated newspapers. Led by CEO and founder, Von Raees, Hey Media’s launch will carry on the mission of its roots, continuing to serve the San Gabriel Valley, San Fernando Valley, Long Beach and Greater Los Angeles.
“Hey Media is breaking ground where traditional media, newspapers, and digital media channels are lacking. By leveraging the depth and breadth of its larger-scale resources and technologies, the long-standing hyper-local focus of Hey Media’s leadership will now direct resources similar to those typically reserved for Fortune 500 companies to niche communities with an authentic local feel,” added Raees.
As a part of this expansion, Hey Media will continue to grow its current multimedia consulting programs. Due to the changing nature of journalism and marketing, Hey Media’s marketing team will create content for local businesses that more effectively targets local communities with resources and methods traditionally exclusive to national and international enterprises. This will be accomplished with bespoke digital marketing, expert multi-platform strategy consultation, and new media production services unparalleled in the current local news landscape.
Hey Media will also focus on social justice and impact issues, which they have said has been a part of their mission since 1996.
“Our company is rooted in the idea of social justice and equality which we have moved the needle on through hard-hitting investigative journalism since inception,” said Raees. Along with traditional investigative journalism covering impact issues, Hey Media will debut a short-form video series titled, “Impact Chamber.” The video series will explore the ways that people can create real and lasting change for the challenges of our world today, according to Raees.
The past year has brought many difficulties to communities around the world due to COVID-19, unemployment, economic decline and issues of racial injustice. Hey Media plans to continue to cover these stories and make a positive impact on communities and businesses in the Southern California region, which the company believes will grow its relevance to Millennial and Generation Z subscribers who represent the most ethnically diverse cohort in history, according to a Pew Research Center report.
