Louisiana Virtual Charter Academy Kicks Off 2019-2020 School Year

BATON ROUGE, La.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Students at Louisiana Virtual Charter Academy (LAVCA), an online public charter school, will begin their 2019-20 school year on August 8th. LAVCA is available tuition-free to students in kindergarten through 12th grade across the state.

LAVCA combines innovative technology with a rigorous curriculum led by state-certified teachers. Students take a full course load across the core subjects of math, science, language arts, history, art and music, as well as a variety of electives, including world languages, honors and dual enrollment courses at the appropriate grade levels.

Starting in 3rd grade, students can participate in a blended-learning experience with in-person instruction and remediation sessions. This in-person support is offered four days a week at learning centers in Baton Rouge, Shreveport, Monroe, Alexandria, New Orleans, and Lafayette, Louisiana. This option also features student enrichment and socialization opportunities.

“At LAVCA, we are committed to meeting students where they are and giving them the support they need,” said LAVCA Head of School Danielle Scott-Johnson. “That’s why, each and every day, we work with families to ensure we’re engaging students in a way that works for them.”

Many families and students are choosing online school because it provides an alternative to traditional brick-and-mortar education. Athletes, advanced learners, and all types of students can balance a full academic load along with extracurricular pursuits or any other specialized needs.

“The teachers at LAVCA are already working hard to ensure that we meet our goal of one-year academic growth for every student,” said LAVCA math teacher Yvonne Chimwaza. “We’re excited to see our students excel far beyond their imaginations!”

LAVCA fosters a sense of community, through online interactions and in-person school events during the year. Graduating seniors walk at an in-person ceremony every spring. Virtual clubs and student organizations also allow students to further explore their interests together in the online setting.

Families are encouraged to attend an online or in-person information session hosted by the school. To learn more about enrollment or for a schedule of information sessions visit lavca.k12.com, or download the K12 enrollment app for iOS and Android devices.
