Oregon Virtual Academy Students Ready to Power Up the 2019-20 School Year

NORTH BEND, Ore.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–#onlinelearningOregon Virtual Academy (ORVA), an accredited online public charter school, will welcome students for the 2019-2020 school year on September 3. Authorized by the North Bend School District, ORVA is a tuition-free public school at home option available to students statewide in kindergarten through 12th grade.

By combining technology with a rigorous curriculum ORVA offers a learning experience tailored to fit each student’s needs. Through live and recorded sessions, students can access their virtual classrooms from any computer with an internet connection.

There is not a ‘one-size-fits-all’ method of education that works for all students,” said first grade teacher Heather Colbert. “At ORVA, we’re providing students with a personalized approach to learning that meets them where they are and helps them to grow into their potential.”

Students in all grade levels take a full course load across the core subjects of English/language arts, math, science and history, as well as world languages, arts, music, and electives, with Advanced Placement® courses available for high school students. ORVA also offers credit recovery opportunities to help struggling students get back on track.

The Expanded Options dual enrollment program allows qualified high school students to take select courses that will fulfill high school graduation requirements through a local community college, while earning both high school and college credit tuition-free.

ORVA students can also choose from a broad range of career-focused electives, to gain exposure to and experience in the fields of Business Administration and Marketing. According to a recent survey conducted by Morning Consult, only 13% of parents strongly agreed that their school system is teaching kids “useful skills that will help them in the real world.” ORVA’s career readiness program is designed to help bridge this gap with a new public education option.

ORVA’s dedicated teachers facilitate lessons during live, interactive online classes, and connect with students and families via phone, email, and online discussions to build close partnerships in support of academic success. The online platform enables students to enjoy a safe learning environment while connecting with classmates and teachers across the state.

Throughout the year, ORVA builds a sense of community through in-person field trips and social outings including a spring prom. ORVA also celebrates graduating seniors with an in-person commencement ceremony in the spring. Virtual clubs and student organizations allow students to further explore their interests together in the online setting.

ORVA is still accepting enrollments for the 2019-2020 school year. To learn more, visit orva.k12.com, follow ORVA on Facebook, or download the K12 mobile app for iOS and Android devices.
